The title, Spiegel im Spiegel is a German term for ‘mirror in mirror’. I interpreted the meaning as two individuals learning from each other’s, actions, gestures and reflections. The idea of the title challenges the perception of self in relation to others.
Profiles of the two collaborators are introduced followed by short dialogue-vignettes. The collaborators converse with each other through the process of knitting and embroidery. The narrative can be used as a tool for reflection, explanation, interpretation and a form of analysing the communication and practice.
The book gives a real feel to the patience, the affinity and the fondness in the relationship. I like the ‘style’ and layout because it mirrors Hazel’s slow, deliberate uncomplicated approach to life. Support Worker
